Edison got another two books in the mail from BookDepository again. He finished up 3 Wimpy Kids books in just a few hours, so we have to keep “feeding’' him with new books.
We have spent quite a small fortune on books for him :). But its worth it.
Just finished packing my luggage for the GYL Camp trip to Turi Beach, Batam tomorrow. Oh, I will miss home and Singapore :(
Fleming wrote another blog entry today. His THIRD. Another good-to-laugh at post ;)
Can’t expect much from him, don’t like to read much, and definitely not the hardworking type. The only thing he works real hard at is playing games.
I think I have been a rather dutiful mummy this weekend.
Did a lot of things with the kids on Fri, Sat and today: brought them to various places like the Zoo, Singapore River, VivoCity etc, helped them with their homework etc.
On the other hand, I feel quite guilty that I haven’t touched much of my office work :(
Whoever says a woman can juggle ALL aspects of her life well is not telling the whole truth. Something has to give way for sure.
*** Gosh, I sure overspent today. Went Coffee Club for breakfast this morning and was tempted by their membership promotion whereby we need to spend $30 and can qualify for their lifetime membership with privileges like 15% discount, free item on birthday etc. Ended up, just to chalk up $30 on the bill, we bought two VERY EXPENSIVE cake slices which cost about $8.00 each. A piece of cake for $8.00 each, mind you. Crazy right? But I was mad to spend on that today. Tsk tsk, penny wise, pound foolish.
** Haha, as I am typing this, younger son is ‘panicking’ as he has not done his homework despite an entire week of school holiday. Earnestly writing out his reading list as you can see from the photo below.
Elder boy has been working very hard this holiday though. I am pleased to say he did his best to follow the prescribed holiday timetable NRZ designed for him, and also wrote a few blog entries. Besides that, he also did an English Language game project and a photo journal assignment which are due in a few days time.
We helped him a bit of course, doing things like printing, laminating, making box for his game etc. Nowadays, when children are given homework, the parents are also given homework!
And it was another rainy day today.
Rainy days are best for lazing at home. And reading a good book.
Wrote a real long post just now , but Windows Live Writer crashed on me, arrgh. I must remember to click the “Save Draft” button more often.
Anyway, what a tiring day for us today. Just came back an hour ago from a two hour walking session around Funan Centre / Singapore River, thanks to a exuberant Fleming who did not want to go home after our dinner. Our usual routine on Saturday nights is to walk around the shopping centre near our house after dinner and then proceed home, but for some reason, he decided that he did not want to repeat this, and insisted we bring him somewhere that’s “not so near”.
”How about we bring you to the 7-11 to get a fruit juice and then we go home after that?” I asked him hopefully.
“No, that’s too near.”
”How about the 7-11 that’s abit further away?” I ventured.
”No, that’s too near.”
Edison chipped in, “How about 7-11 that’s in Changi Airport?”
“Hmm, can…” Flem replied.
Wow, I certainly do not want to travel to all the way from west to east to Changi Airport out of the blue like this.
”Flem, how about Singapore River?”
Thankfully, he said YES…
So that explains why out of the whim, we suddenly found ourselves roaming around Singapore River tonight.
Anyway, it was also an excuse to check out the Pentax K-x ($789) we have been eyeing since a few months ago. Wee, they got a red body on display, it looks soo swee! Also asked Ray, the sales guy at SLR Revolution to quote us some budget-priced compact cameras. He mentioned FujiFilm AX200 at a price of $160. 12 megapixel with HD recording, very attractive pricing indeed, only too bad, it only has digital stabilization :(
Work, work, work. That dreaded word took away many of our weekends last year and as a result, our $430 “WildLife Unlimited Plus” membership to the Singapore Zoo, Jurong BirdPark and Night Safari was barely half used.
Besides work, our FYP for our Masters was also the culprit of our constant fatigue and lack of interest in driving all the way to the Mandai area, so we promised the kids, when our FYP is finally over, we’ll definitely make time to bring them.
Promises should not be broken, so yes, recently, we have been more active in our weekend pursuits. :)
Today, we went to the Singapore Zoo. Boy, was it crowded. Our (hardly used) membership had expired last Dec, so we had to apply for a new one. The whole place was so packed, and even to apply for the membership, we had to take a queue ticket. There were more than 10 people ahead of us in the queue, so we waited more than 30 minutes just to apply for membership!
We also saw Flying Dutchman there. He was there with the ChannelNewsAsia “Blog.TV” team to do a “Say I Love You” promotion and basically, the team was there to try to get 1000 people to make a phone call to someone to say “I Love You” and if they succeed, someone would donate some money to some charity fund. We got Fleming to call home to say “I Love You” to his grandma and Edison to call Daddy. Unfortunately, Grandma wasn’t home when he called, so ended up Fleming spoke to Idah and said I Love You to Idah instead. Edison was videoed saying I Love You to his Daddy, though Edison said the place was so noisy he couldn’t even hear himself or anything.
We didn’t apply “WildLife Unlimited Plus” this time. NRZ figured we probably wouldn’t bother much with going to Night Safari and the boys were none too keen on Jurong Bird Park, so paying $430 was not worth it. So we opted for the $180 “Friends Of The Zoo” membership instead. I did a quick calculation and figured that for a family of four like us, we just need to make about 4 trips a year, and it’s already worth the cost. Four trips a year ain’t a lot, haha, so that’s quite a good deal. :)
Today was weekday, so we got free tram rides! We never took the tram and always walked all the way in our previous visits to the zoo, so this time, taking the tram to travel around the zoo was really senang and enjoyable! :)
We also took a lot of videos using our JVC Everio TrueHD videocam. The raw videos are fantastic in quality! But the raw videos are gigantic, just a couple of seconds is a few MB and those 5-10 mins are a few hundred MBs! I converted and resized a few of these videos but the resized versions are not even half as good as the original. You can view some of the zoo videos at my Youtube channel here.
I trimmed my hair today at QB again. The stylist trimmed off a good 900 cm square worth of hair for me! But seems that even with this massive amount of hair snipped off, it didn’t have much visual difference to others. Mum, Idah and NRZ all commented that I didn’t look as if I had a hair-cut at all.
It’s been a LOOOOONG time since we last played at Mind Cafe.
But it’s the boys’ one week holiday and I promised them I would bring them there.
The last time we went to the Funan Centre branch was not such a good experience; we were the only ones playing at the cafe, the games seemed few and lousy and there weren’t too many food choices.
But this time round is much better. There were 3 other groups besides ourselves (I feel less weird this way), they
seem to have much better games this time and the menu looks more ‘glorified’.
We spent slightly over an hour there and played just two games: Chicken Cha Cha Cha and Igloo Pop. Chicken Cha Cha Cha is a fun memory type of game, highly recommend this game for families with small kids as it is not too difficult to play or understand, you just need to have a good memory! :) Igloo Pop is pretty fun too, your ‘listening power’ has to be good as you need to estimate the number of chips hidden in the igloo you choose.
We also ordered three chicken hotdog buns + 1 Hot Milo just for $10.05 only.
Guess this good experience means we should go back there quite soon again? ;)
