Cold and Headache
Not one of my favourite days today because it was raining for the whole of today + I had a nagging headache since morning. Its so cold today, so My dressing style was very different today - a long sleeve shirt layered with a vest and long pants.
Work was however quite ok as I finally met up with my Year 3 students after 4 weeks of vacation and I was relieved though surprised to see that most of them felt quite satisfied with their Mid Semester test results which i gave out today.
Edison updated us that there won't be any interview for the New Zealand trip but he was given 20 minutes to write a short note on why he wanted to go on the trip and how he can benefit from it. Looks like he has quite a high chance of joining the trip as he told us that there were only 3 students from his class who signed up for it.
Was checking out the free apps on AppFree, and was enticed to download this game called Tiny Chef because apparently, I could earn some AppGame points if I installed and played it.
Well, I did install and played the game, and actually its not a bad game ... alot like FaceBook's Restaurant City.
NRZ also had fun playing with his Samsung Galaxy Tab ^.^

The most essential qualties I want of my kids
Yesterday was just another "normal" day, but then again, I love "normal" days like these! :)
Woke up at a later timing of 9 am today compared to 7am on the previous day. Even so, it was barely enough sleep since we only got to bed at 1am the night before.
2011 has indeed brought about many changes.
For instance, we have changed our weekend routine to eat at Long John Silvers on Sunday because of the kids' new CCA commitments on Saturdays. Previously, Saturday morning breakfast was always LJS as it's Flem's favourite!
Our usual routine is also to bring back two hashbrowns for our helper to eat. Today, Flem declared, "I am not going to bring back hashbrown for Auntie today. I will give her biscuits instead".
Flem didn't explain the reason for his odd and adhoc "decision" today, but clever NRZ immediately guessed Flem's intention - he didn't want to approach the LJS staff for plastic bag (which he usually is "assigned" by us to do) so he decided to try to eat up the remaining hashbrowns instead so that we can't ask him to do that today. Tsk tsk.
I am not too pleased by his "excuse" as above, but what made me really angry was the incident which happened when we went home later.
Well, since he ate up all the hashbrowns, I couldn't bring back any for Zaina, our helper ad usual. So I reminded Flem of his earlier promise, that he would give her biscuits instead. I handed two packets of biscuits over to him and instructed him to give them to Zaina.
Well, I was probably rather fierce and rather demanding when I did that, and so he was also very 不干愿 (unwilling) when he took over the biscuits from me.
But never did I expect that kind of behaviour from him like this: he walked over to Zaina who happened to be sitting on the floor and threw the biscuits on the floor to "give" to her.
When I saw that, I was really furious and immediayely smacked his hand on the spot. Also demanded him to apologise to Zaina anf I myself also said sorry to my helper as well.
I am definitely very saddened by the behaviour of my child and would not cordon such callous actions from him. Reprimanded him for a few minutes and being the stubborm child he was, he went on
"cold war" with me for an hour after that.
When he cooled down, he took the initiative to come to me to "make up". I told him he was "forgiven" but reminded him not to repeat such behaviour again. He nodded his head and "promised", but kids are kids, they forget easily, so I really hope.. he would really not do that again. To me, it is not essential that a kid must be smart" and score A grades , but he must learn to be thoughtful and display kind behaviour, that is the most important!

No more Saturday laziness!
Its been quite some time since we have to wake up so early on a Saturday.
But today, we had to send Fleming to school by 8 am because he has just signed up for Boys Brigade CCA.
It was quite a stressful morning before we set off because the stubborn boy refused to eat his breakfast of egg, steamed prune cake from BreadTalk and Nutella bread. At 7.45am, I was still "bargaining" with him to eat something, else I will not let him go, blah blah blah kind of threats.
Good thing, he doesn't like to be late himself, so in the end, he ate the egg and drank a cup of hot soya milk, and that was his teeny weeny breakfast! Well, I am not so happy with that, I think growing boys should eat more!
On the other hand, the elder boy has a huge appetite! After we sent his younger brother to school, we walked to Burger King for breakfast. Edison managed to finish one Bacon Croissanwich + half a Ham Croissanwich + a small packet if hashbrowns + Ice Milo!
Hmm.. noticed that his voice is becoming more "coarse". Wonder if that is the impending sign of the arrival of puberty?

IT is a tedious line to be in!
super tired. spent the whole day trying to debug my "EditAchievement.aspx" which sometimes worked, sometimes did not, and I had no idea why!
This morning, one of my former students, Willie Chua dropped by and I had a short chat with him. He has just graduated from NTU and is the midst of applying for a job. Meanwhile, he would be going for a holiday to Taiwan first! ooh.. everyone seems to be going to / have visited Taiwan, I must make plans to go there next year too :)
Willie also told me about his hectic life in NTU, apparently, he took one module called "Programming Languages" which required him to do FIVE projects and learn three new languages: Scheme, C# and another one (i forgot which). His current interest is in datamining and cleaning... woah, tough subject!
Well, the fact is, being in the IT line is tough!
